Let's Talk About Dinosaurs

Dinosaur bones were discovered in 1677. People thought they were some kind of elephant. In 1842, after several huge, strange fossils were discovered Sir Richard Owen realized the creatures were an unknown species and called them Dinosauria, which he coined from the Greek word deinos which means terrible and sauros which means lizard. So it was then that the dinosauria were known as the terrible lizards.

Artists who drew dinosaurs back in those times made them bigger and more like giant lizards, that is because they thought they were giant lizards. But we know that even though some dinosaurs look sort of like some lizards, they aren't lizards at all. They belong to a special group of creature called Archosauria.
