Man's Best Friend

"The Prize Pet of a Lifetime !"

I am one of the proud owners who has the privelage to call Wembley my friend. Why not my dog? Well, he is my dog, but when you've spent 13 1/2 years with a dog there is no avoiding becoming his/her friend. Wembley is a character pet. He has a colorful personality, and loves everyone except those that he senses trouble from. Believe me, he does have that sense. Whenever someone has gotten mad or upset around him, he always barks. Wembley is known for it, in fact my family and I have become so attached to Wembley that we know that if he is barking, it isn't just because there is a tree outside, its because there is either something in the yard that doesn't belong or because there are ANTS crawling in his food !!

Wembley is very playful, and loves to sniff and lick people !! One thing that we have noticed over the years, is that when it is raining he always scratches on the door to get inside ! The instant he gets in the house, he makes sure to stand close to whoever has opened to door to shake all that dog water all over that person, as if to say, "You should have let me in before it started raining you FOOL !" After that we'll put him in his room where he'll stay until the rain stops, or until the next morning. WAIT ! You didn't think you were going to put Wembley away without giving him a dog biscuit (a COOKIE, as it became to be called) did you? If you don't give Wembley a cookie before shutting that door on him, expect the sour treatment the next time you see him. You can't resist giving it to him though, because he bounces around wagging his tail until you throw it to him. He can catch it too !!

Wembley is quite old for his breed (Basset Hound), and it has been said by local veterinarians that Wembley's life expectancy has surpassed that of most Basset Hounds which usually say hello to doggy heaven at the age of 9 or 10 years. Wembley does show his age, but continues to show his spirit. He is going blind in one eye, but still has one 20/20 eye left to keep him chasing the girly dogs clear down Airline Highway !! My family and I think that Wembley will live to be a 100 and eventually take over what would be our old home by then, and then rent it out to all of his friends.

May Wembley live forever because he definately is The Prize Pet of a Lifetime.
